Donal Skehan Biography
Donal Skehan is a 23 year old home cook who writes and photographs food for a living. He has been cooking from an early age and inspired by a family of foodies, food quickly became a way of life. During his teens he worked with his aunt Erica Ryan, one of Ireland’s top food stylists, and got the chance to work alongside some of Ireland’s top food photographers including Jocasta Clarke and Walter Pfeiffer.
After a brief stint as a chef in Sweden, Donal returned to Ireland to start his very own food blog, thegoodmoodfoodblog.com where he writes about his food adventures and recipes everyday. After only 6 months blogging, he was approached by Irish Publishing house, Mercier Press to write a cookbook based around the recipes on the blog.
Good Mood Food was released in October 2009 and received fantastic reviews from editor of Food & Wine magazine, - Ross Golden-Bannon - "Good Mood Food is a new breed of cookbook that springs from the talent of a passionate home cook. Donal’s TV and radio appearances include , Four Live, Ireland AM, The Afternoon Show, ICE, Nationwide and Market Kitchen in the UK, The Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show and The Tubridy Show.
In March 2010, Donal flew to Paris to cater for 700 people at an event called Vielle Foodstock organised by Parisien magazine, Le Fooding sponsored by Bord Bia and Jameson Whiskey. The event was a huge success and was widely covered in the French media. The same week Donal flew back to Ireland just in time to win the award for Best Food/Drink Blog at the Irish Blog Awards in Galway.
Donal is currently working on his second cookbook, "Kitchen Hero" and is filming a 13 part series for RTE to be aired in 2011. He has also been giving several food demonstrations over the summer including, Taste Of Dublin, Bloom and Africa Day. Donal also writes a weekly column in The Cork News, a monthly column in the Irish Independent and Irish Tatler magazine and updates his blog with new recipes on a daily basis.
Aside from the culinary world Donal has also had 2 number one singles in the Irish music charts as a member of pop group Industry and has also supported the Pussycat Dolls and JLS on their Irish tours.

Donal Skehan, 23 ans, est cuisinier amateur, il compose des recettes et photographie des plats en tant que professionnel. Depuis son très jeune âge, il fait la cuisine, inspiré par sa famille gastronome, la nourriture est vite devenue un thème central à sa vie. A l'adolescence, il travailla avec sa tante Erica Ryan, une des plus grandes stylistes culinaires en Irlande et il a ainsi eu la chance de fréquenter certains grands photographes culinaires tels que Jocasta Clarke et Walter Pfeiffer.
Suite à une courte expérience de chef cuisinier en Suède, Donal Skehan revint en Irlande et créa son propre blog culinaire, thegoodmoodfoodblog.com, où il décrit quotidiennement ses aventures culinaires et ses recettes. Après seulement six mois d'écriture de blog, une maison d'édition irlandaise, Mercier Press, lui propose un contrat pour un livre de recettes à partir de ses créations sur le blog.
Good Mood Food sortit dans les librairies en octobre 2009 et reçut d'excellentes critiques du rédacteur en chef de Food & Wine magazine, Ross Golden-Bannon : «Good Mood Food est une nouvelle espèce de livres de cuisine née du talent d'un cuisinier amateur passionné. Un livre à dévorer sans retenue» ; Paulo Tulio : «Enfin des recettes simples et faciles à réaliser qui sont à la fois originales et bonnes pour la santé. Le livre de Donal Skehan nous présente sa succulente nourriture en puisant ses ingrédients directement dans les rayons du supermarchés pour la servir là où elle appartient vraiment : la cuisine familiale. Quant à RTE.ie, le groupe audiovisuel irlandais, il compare le jeune cuisiner à Jamie Oliver.
Donal Skehan multiplie les apparitions à la télévision et à la radio en Irlande et en Grande-Bretagne.
En mars dernier, le blogger culinaire irlandais se rendit à Paris où il prépara à dîner pour 700 personnes lors de la Veille Foodstock, événement organisé par le magazine parisien Le fooding et sponsorisé par Bord Bia et Jameson Whiskey. La soirée connut un énorme succès et reçut beaucoup d'attention de la part des médias français. Dans la même semaine, Donal Skehan retourna en Irlande pour recevoir le prix du meilleur blog culinaire lors des Irish Blog Awards à Galway.
Donal Skehan travaille actuellement sur son second livre de cuisine, Kitchen Hero, et tourne une série de 13 émissions pour RTE dont la diffusion est prévue en 2011. L'été dernier, il a aussi réalisé plusieurs démonstrations de préparation culinaire telles que Taste Of Dublin, Bloom et Africa Day. Donal Skehan tient aussi une colonne hebdomadaire dans The Cork News, une colonne mensuelle dans le Irish Independent et le Irish Tatler magazine et met à jour quotidiennement son blog avec de nouvelles recettes.
Qui plus est, en dehors de ses activités culinaires, Donal Skehan et son groupe Industry ont sorti deux «singles» numéro un au hit-parade dans leur pays et ont assuré la première partie des Pussycat Dolls et des JLS lors de leur tournée en Irlande.
